Hannelie Groenewald

Hannelie Groenewald grew up in Kempton Park and obtained an MBChB degree at the University of Pretoria. She has worked in private practice ever since. In 1990, she married Werner, who completed a degree in theology at the same university in 1993. Two children were born from their marriage: Jean-Pierre and Rodé. Their son Jean-Pierre was born in 1997 and their daughter Rodé in 1999. Werner worked for the Moreleta DRC congregation until they left for Kabul in August 2003. At the time of the attack on the family, the children were 17 and 15 years old respectively. Werner and Hannelie were married for 24 years. They spent more than 11 years in Kabul.
